HERE is the quite extraordinary footage of a granny taking on a gang of robbers in Northampton town centre.
At 9.30am on Monday morning, a group of six robbers starting attacking a Rolex jewellers on Gold Street, destroying the windows with sledgehammers. Inside, staff were horrified to discover they were under attack, desperately trying to put the shutters down at this attempted break-in.
However, a 71-year old is seen on the video running from the distance and with all the bravery in the world that many simply don't have, she starts hitting the robbers repeatedly with her handbag, carrying her shopping. She had no regard for her own safety, battering them again and again and leaving them completely terrified. Realising that their plan had failed, the robbers attempted to make a quick escape on their motorbikes. In the shock, two of the robbers fall off and the granny hits them again. At this point, some of the other onlookers decide to join the fray and help stop the robbers getting away, with one being held at the scene.
Since the startling incident on Monday morning, four men have been charged by police. The Rolex store that came under attack has had its windows boarded up, but is still open for business. Meanwhile, the embarrassed granny has received worldwide recognition for her pure heroism.
These robbers failed miserably to achieve their target and it's so nice to see these sort of normal, everyday people, making the news for their heroic actions.
